Oktoberfest Hermann Missouri

Oktoberfest is celebrated by about 6 million people around the world over 200 years. The first Oktoberfest was intended to help celebrate the royal wedding of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen in Munich, Germany in 1810. To continue the event annually the festival was converted into a horse race which included wine and beer tasting for visitors. Before each event, performances were held in honor of the royal family, usually dances by children in Wittelsbach costumes. By the 19th century, Oktoberfest was promoting Bavarian agriculture with more activities such as tree climbing, swings, carnivals and parades. After a few cancellations due to war and epidemics, Oktoberfest returned in full swing in Bavaria in the 1880s with booths selling bratwurst and beer served in glass mugs, which eventually lead to development of beer halls to house vendors and musicians. In 1960, horse races had ended but the celebration lives on today in festival which has become world famous. Hermann has created an all month Oktoberfest to give tribute for its German heritage. Most of the wineries celebrate with live music each weekend. Lay out on the color changing hills, enjoy your wine and dance if you wish!
